Training for the Trail

I'm getting ready for backpacking. I don't have anything heroic planned yet. I just want my body to be able to carry what my heart wants to go and see.

Right now that means endurance work and a lot of core training. It's not glamorous. It's the same movements, repeated, on days when I feel like it and on days when I don't.

I've also gotten into the quiet habit of writing down what I eat every day. It started as discipline. Lately it feels more like attention: noticing what I'm putting into the body I'm asking so much of.

I've realized that training is a kind of craft. You don't rush it. You can't fake it. You show up, do the small thing well, and trust that something is being built underneath, even when you can't see it yet.

That sounds a lot like faith to me.

More soon, hopefully from somewhere with a view.

There’s a seat for you.

Joining the table doesn’t mean signing up for anything big. It means you’ll hear from me now and then: a new conversation, a meditation, a verse I’ve been sitting with. No noise, no pressure, and you can leave any time.
